The Hidden Hero of Chelan County: What You Need to Know Now!

Uncategorised

Gambit, a dynamic four-year-old Border Collie mix, is gaining recognition for his role in combating drug use at the Chelan County Jail. As a drug detection dog, Gamibt has excelled under the tutelage of Deputy Jacob Lewis. In just his first year of work, Gambit has conducted approximately 200 searches in local schools and correctional facilities, identifying banned substances like fentanyl and methamphetamine over 30 times.

The K9 program, though facing financial hurdles, is celebrated for its significant success in tackling drug-related issues. Its achievements have prompted other jails in Washington to consider establishing similar units. Gambit’s journey is especially poignant as he steps into the legacy of Kait, a trailblazing canine officer who passed away due to health issues.

Originally rescued from a challenging situation, Gambit has thrived, making an impactful difference throughout the community. Largely dependent on private donations, his care is supported by an ongoing fundraising campaign, which concludes on November 6. Supporters can contribute by purchasing branded merchandise such as T-shirts and hoodies, underscoring the crucial role these loyal dogs play.

Beyond contributing financially, communities can back local K9 programs by volunteering, organizing creative fundraising events, and sharing inspiring stories on social media. Educating the public about the influence of K9 units can also drive increased support and funding. With Gambit’s story of dedication and the community’s cooperation, we can ensure these hardworking canine officers continue to protect us for years to come.
